Ministry Committee
of the
Armenian Evangelical Union of North America
When God Calls!
Then I heard the voice of the Lord
saying,
"Whom shall I send and who will go for Us?"
Then I said,
"Here I am Lord! Send me!"
(Isaiah 6:8)
When the prophet Isaiah heard the voice of
the Lord calling him into service, his response was quick and decisive.
The Ministry Committee is committed to
helping people who wish to identify, confirm and develop their sense of call within the
Armenian Evangelical Union of North America.
If you feel that God might be calling you
into service in His ministry, please read the material in this brochure. It is our hope
that through the programs provided, many individuals will find the courage to respond as
Isaiah did by saying, "Here I am Lord! Send me!" |
What is the Role of the Ministry Committee?
The Ministry Committee serves a vital function in the
life of the churches which constitute the Armenian Evangelical Union of North America. It
is charged to oversee all activities pertaining to developing/supporting pastoral
leadership and advising local congregations in regard to church- and/or Union-related
matters.
It is important, therefore, that our churches familiarize
themselves with the programs and resources available to them through the Ministry
Committee. This brochure outlines the key services available to the local congregation.
The Ministry Committee is a standing committee of the
AEUNA, reporting to the board of directors semi-annually.
Programs and Resources
In-Care Program for Ministry Candidates.
This committee recruits ministry candidates, providing guidance and scholarship support
for their seminary education as they prepare for full-time ordained ministry, or missions
work within the AEUNA.
Lay Leadership Program. This program seeks
to give lay workers within the AEUNA a chance to develop their ministry skills by
providing guidance and scholarship support to full- or part-time seminary students
recommended by one of our churches.
Ordination and Installation. The committee
evaluates and recommends applicants to the Board of Directors for ordination and provides
guidance in the planning of ordination and/or installation services.
Ministerial Standing. The committee verifies
credentials and maintains a file for each minister granted standing and/or privilege of
call by the AEUNA and makes recommendations to encourage continuing education.
Licensure. In the absence of an ordained
minister, a church may request that the committee grant licensure to a qualified candidate
to serve the church in a pastoral capacity and perform functions normally reserved for
ordained ministers. Such a license is granted for a specific ministry and for a limited
but renewable term.
Pastoral Placement. A church seeking to fill
a pastoral vacancy may turn to the committee for help with the search process and
information regarding available candidates for the position. A pastor with standing may
work with the committee to update his/her ministerial profile for distribution to the
appropriate pulpit search committees.
Guidance and Crisis Management. The
committee may be called upon, either by direct request from the pastor, or by a vote of
the church council, to provide guidance on any issues related to the life and ministry of
the church, including crisis management and conflict resolution. The committee is not
authorized to become involved in local church issues unless specifically invited in one of
those two ways.1
Pastoral Relations. Retreats and other
events will be planned periodically to provide pastors an opportunity to participate in
continuing education, to interact, to share ideas, visions and burdens together.
Statistics. The committee maintains
statistics regarding a number of areas related to the life and ministry of our churches,
including levels of compensation and benefits being received by pastors within the AEUNA.
