Recently it has come to our attention that many new Armenian young people and families have settled in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. It is also a place where many people, starting out on their careers in government work, do internships or work in support of political causes for a number of years.
Considering all these factors, we established a list of contacts and began reaching out to see if there was interest in starting a group for Armenian Evangelicals. The response was very positive and encouraging. As things began to progress, Rev. Heather Ohaneson, pastor of the Armenian Martyrs’ Congregational Church in Havertown, PA, expressed interest in helping. Being the chair of the AEUNA Evangelism Committee, pastor of a church within driving distance of DC, and someone who grew up in Maryland and Virginia, she is in a perfect position to lend a hand.
As more names were added to our list, Rev. Heather made multiple trips to the area, establishing relationships and assessing the possibilities. A small, vibrant group of Armenians in Maryland are members of the Potomac Presbyterian Church. This hospitable congregation and their pastor are graciously open to supporting this fellowship.
Finally, it was decided to hold a kick-off event on Saturday evening, January 31, 2026. More details will be announced, but a Save the Date flyer is included below. We are hoping that by spending some time together we will be able to identify God’s vision for this group and make more plans for future activities.
If you have any family members, or know other Armenian Evangelicals in that area, let us know and give us their contact information. Feel free as well to share the attached flyer with them. Please keep this ministry in your prayers, as we seek to establish a fellowship that can be a Light for the Gospel in a place that seriously needs the love of Jesus.
Rev. Ron Tovmassian
Field Pastor
